The History Behind Holiday Wreaths

dried wreaths
Christmas is one of the festivities that is being celebrated all around the globe. And I am sure that during these days almost everyone is busy decorating their house with different ornaments for this holiday season. And it will never be complete without door wreaths as it symbolizes the Advent hope in Christ. Nonetheless, have you ever thought of asking how wreaths became associated with this celebration?

We usually have door wreaths and it was believed that this started in ancient Rome to represent victory. While during the Roman times it was said that wreaths are considered to be an emblem of royalty and achievement. It is also known as the wreath of Laurel. These holiday wreaths that we know today have different representations depending on culture, beliefs and views. For pre-Christian Germanic, it has been a practice d during the cold December to gather wreaths of evergreen as a sign of hope and a new light towards the spring. And this also shows the preparation for the coming of Christ and the circular shape means God himself.

And for a while these Christmas wreaths have also been used as ornaments and headdresses as attire for ceremonial events in many cultures all over the globe. Perhaps that’s the reason why we have different fancy wreaths like ribbons wreaths, floral wreaths and leaf wreaths.

With all those various kinds of wreaths, customarily, this ornament is made of four candles encircling evergreens with the fifth candle in the center. These candles are lighted before the evening meal one after the other until December 25th. This will be followed by a prayer and the fifth candle will be the last and this happens on Christmas eve as it represents that Jesus Christ is born.

Today, holiday wreaths are attractive welcoming decorations that add style to your home. May it be an assortment of flowers, leaves, twigs or fruits. Whether you put it there for just the thought of it or maybe you believe in its promise of hope or as a symbol of advent, whatever it is make sure you celebrate this holiday with full of happiness circled with love as the wreath suggest.

Gifts for the Coming Holiday

It is already part of tradition to give gifts in honor of different gods in preparation of the festive seasons. And one of the most awaited celebrations is the Christmas day which is just around the corner. This is the time when forgiveness is accepted, moments when sorry is being said and thank you was never taken for granted.

I assume that almost everyone is busy packing their gifts to their loved ones or maybe others are still thinking of what to give. Perhaps you are wondering what exciting and unique present to render that will bring happiness and satisfaction to the receiver.

Well, let me give you ideas that will surely be cherished by the recipient.

gift plants

1. Order Gift Plants

That will be too common to give flowers on certain celebrations. Flowers easily wither but gift plants don’t. And the best thing about these gift plants is that they are not gender restricted so you can give them to anyone.

2. Home Embellishments

Why bother to give something that is not usable? Home embellishments like weather vanes and outdoor wall clocks. They are both practical and functional.

3. Personalized Items

It will be deeply valued if you are going to give something that is personalized but is useful at the same time. It will do best if you’ll change their wooden decrepit mailboxes outside. Mailboxes and address plaques can be matched to whatever is the theme or like of the receiver. Personalized items are the ones that are always treasured since it shows the givers effort and sense of altruism.

Exchanging gifts during this holiday season add color to this festivity. This is usually planned and some even creates their list to prepare and to organize for the coming season. After all, this is all about sharing joys and smiles to everyone.

Spread love and leave all the worries and anxieties behind. Give gifts and feel the joy and sincerity of wrapping them. And if you receive one, be glad and be excited while opening it. Merry Christmas!

Indoor plants can brighten up a room with its color and it foster positive energy. At the same time it is eye-catching and it brings a lot of health benefits. According to studies a room richly decorated with plants can help keep the room clean. I have read an article as well online and it says that common house plants can improve air quality. It can remove 87 percent of air toxins in 24 hours.

Having indoor plants at home and at the office can surely add to its attractiveness as long as it is situated at the right spot. It can offer aesthetic stimulants to people in the room and can be used as a divider in open space offices.
It also shows that it can improve corporate image. Since alternative decorating choices costs too much then plants can offer a guarantee of positively enhancing perception to your corporate image.

In a study it was proven that an employee can increase its productivity and lessen sick leave expenses with plants surrounding them. A comfortable office environment is more conducive to encourage an employee to boost his or her output. An office which is closed, lacking an appropriate exchange of fresh air can lead to an increase of employee illnesses. By adding house plants, it can absorb office pollutants and emit clean oxygen, therefore reduces sick leave expenses.

An indoor plant can thrive well even in a limited space therefore it can be an ideal gift plant to someone in any occasion. It can be perfect as birthday plants or even as sympathy plants. And what makes it even more special is it doesn’t have any gender restrictions.

Gift Plants for Forgiveness

Asking for forgiveness is hard. It takes time for someone to sincerely apologize and to humbly accept his own mistakes. However, saying “I am sorry” can melt even a heartless soul. And that is undoubtedly a gift that you can give to yourself to continue life without grudges and hate. It is a peaceful way to commit yourself to the process of change to discover the path of healing.

Sometimes forgiveness is associated with gifts. It can be through chocolates, bouquet of flowers, foods and stuffed toys. It can dull the vividness of the feeling that was hurt most especially if the present is wrapped with effort. Choose the right present to give and certainly you will be forgiven.

Apart from those stuff, gift plants is surely one of the best option you can offer to someone that you have wronged attached with your heartfelt sorry. Dendrobium Orchid is an excellent gift plant that has an extraordinary beauty that can captivate someone’s attention. Unlike with cut flowers that wilts easily, this gift plant can be enjoyed over time when taken care of cautiously.

Gift plants are attractive and are very much appealing to the eyes and it goes with designer pots and baskets. They can be ordered online or over the phone. And since they are available anywhere you can surely visit your local nursery to choose the right plant suitable for the recipient. They are also considered as online plants since you can take advantage of them using your computer. And to order plants online is easy and very much convenient since you don’t have to order the traditional way.

Saying sorry to someone need not necessarily incorporated with gifts. They are just given to add color to the word "sorry" yet ideal gifts can soften the pain and can ease the burden. However, Forgiveness will not be possible until compassion is born in one’s heart. Learn to take responsibility of your action and face the truth that forgiveness is needed to rekindle a relationship. Don’t be afraid and cower to ask for forgiveness since this is the only way for you to live a healthy life without loads on your back.

And to avoid disappointment in growing this gift plant here are some tips:

Watering

Orchids need to be watered just once a week since it can withstand drought far better than moist. However, it uses more water when they are in flower. Sprinkle the foliage between watering but avoid spraying it directly because it is receptive to fungus which makes it rot. And never let it to sit in water or it will kill the orchid fast.

Temperature

An average of 65F-80F will be best for this gift plant, although a 95F temperature for a while won’t cause any harm though they dislike sudden change of temperature. And keep in mind that cold temperature causes the leaves to be yellow. In situation like this, remove the yellow foliage and care for the plant just as usual.

Light

Orchids are light-hungry plant. They love light but not direct sunlight. And during winter, try to make them happy by growing them under artificial lights.

Growing Media

An orchid medium should provide good aeration that would permit water to drain very quickly. But most tropical orchids grow better in air and easily killed by being planted in soil. All orchids have their roots protruding from the top of its media and so it is best to repot it once every 2 years.

1. Gardenia will most likely to grow in a temperature in the low 70s. It is ideal for this plant to be in a humid soil which is not too dry or too wet.

2. Choose a spot with partial shade to avoid direct contact from the sun. And for keeping it indoor, put it in a container which has wheels since it grows over six feet and are difficult to move without wheels.

3. In watering this gift plant, it is necessary to pour the water on from the bottom of the container and allow the roots to dispose the water that it doesn’t need since it is good for the plant not to be soaked in water but not too dry as well. Though Gardenia likes humidity, misting the leaves can be a problem and can cause fungal growth on leaves. So keep in mind not to put it under another plant that may drip under its leaves.

4. Fertilizers designed for Azaleas will fill the nutrients your Gardenia needed. And prune older gardenia stems after it stops blooming. This will stimulates frequent blooming.

Growing this plant is simple and easy. You just have to be sensitive to its needs and take time to show your care to them. How to Grow Great Bonsai Plants

GivingPlants.com bonsai plants are a wonderful choice for anyone who likes to grow things or garden and loves their delicate style. They are great for offices, nursing homes, dorms and porches or patios – anywhere space is limited. Teachers with a green thumb will love them, and they create interest for students.

Bonsai plants were developed in Japan and China, and grow well indoors. GivingPlants.com bonsai plants arrive with a lovely shape, plus a beautifully designed container and plantscape. Here are the secrets to successful bonsai, courtesy of GivingPlants.com:

Light and Temperature

A bonsai needs good indoor sunlight. Morning sun and afternoon shade is ideal. It should be in temperatures of at least 60 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, and will be okay down to 45 degrees or so overnight.

Water

Bonsai needs a lot of water, but your planter should never be set in a saucer or tray with standing water. The roots will rot. Water in gravel under the pot works well to improve drainage. The container should always have drainage holes so over watering will drain off.

A Bonsai needs moderate watering when the soil appears dry – never let the soil dry out around the roots. In full sun, some Bonsai need watering daily, but every two or three is often okay. Watch your bonsai plant closely when new, establish a regular watering routine and check that as temperatures and sunlight change with the seasons.

It is happy when its leaves are moist. Spray the leaves or needles with generous amounts of water, and do that often. Umbrella bonsai trees have large leaves that act as a canopy over the pot, table or desk.

Displaying

From table top to eye level is the best display height. Zen Reflection Bonsai trees are ideal for the work place and a desk as the relaxing image of a large shade tree invades the mind and introduces peace.

Trimming

Prune or pinch back your bonsai to keep its original shape, or, if you get adventurous, the redesigned shape you choose (do this carefully and bit by bit). Start pruning in early spring, and trim when needed throughout the fall growing season. Check the Web or a book for pruning the type of bonsai plant you have. Remove all the plant bits – leaving them on the soil is likely to cause fungus.

Fertilizing

Fertilize your plant from spring through fall, but not winter. Because the container is flat, use a mix at half strength and fertilize only every three to four weeks. Again, check the needs of your kind of bonsai plant.

Other Important Care

Most bonsais – particularly the Juniper bonsai prefer to be cleaned with a small brush rather than washed. An art brush works. Be gentle.

Bonsais attract some pests – most likely aphids, caterpillars, red spider mites and ants. Watch for them, especially if you bring plants from outside, and treat with a pesticide.

Powdery mildew is the main disease concern – it looks like white flour on the leaves and stems. If leaves get rust spots (orange) you may need a rust spray, or may need to find low-potassium fertilizer or potting soil. Yellow leaves or needles, as on other plants, tell you your bonsai needs more iron.

Repotting

Bonsai needs repotting only every one to two years. Spring works best. Trim the roots when you repot, cutting off 1/3 to 2/3 of each root to give it new energy. Use a pot similar in shape to the original – shallow, rather than a traditional flower pot. That also best compliments the lines of the Bonsai plant.

Enjoy!
